Strivers Hockey is the premier tier II spring & summer tournament team program in the DMV. Our flexible format offers participants one power skating & skills intensive practice per week combined with multiple tournament options per age group and level. Strivers Hockey offers families the ability to design an off-season that meets their individual needs.

10 Practices

One practice per week, beginning the week of April 7th, held at the St. James Sports and Active Entertainment Center in Springfield, VA.

2-3 Tournament Options

Spring & Summer tournaments. Families are able to select which tournaments they would like to attend. Players must attend at least one tournament.

Our coaching staff is made up of Pro, NCAA & ACHA Alumni.

FAQ's

TRYOUTS

Check In

Requirement: Players must check in for each tryout session to receive a jersey and rink assignment.
Jersey Return: Tryout jerseys must be returned at the conclusion of evaluations.
Attendance: Players should attend both evaluation dates when applicable (14U & 16U Co-Ed).

Tryout Policies

Group Assignments: Co-Ed session groups will be announced closer to tryouts, group requests cannot be accommodated.
Attendance: Players must attend tryouts to be rostered on a team.
Roster Announcements: Rosters will be announced shortly after tryouts conclude.
Roster Acceptance: Players have 24-hours to accept their roster spot after rosters are announced.
Refunds: No refunds.

Season Schedule:

The spring season consists of nine practices over the span of ten weeks. The cost to register for a practice group is $515 for 10U-19U and $415 for 8U.

TOURNAMENTS

How do I register for tournaments?

-Tournament registration opens as soon as teams are announced. A $100 deposit is required to hold your players' spot. The remaining cost will be due before the tournament start date. Tournament deposits are strictly non-refundable.

What is the cost for tournaments?

-Tournament cost varies on age, level, location and how many players are attending. You'll see a price range for each tournament, the minimum price shown is with 15 players and 2 goalies attending. The maximum price shown is with 12 players and 1 goalie.

Should I book hotels or travel arrangements after registering?

-No, all tournaments are Stay-to-Play meaning we must book as a team. Do not book hotels or travel arrangements until instructed by Strivers staff.

Can I use my membership discount for tournament registration?

-No, membership discounts cannot be applied to tournament fees. Membership discounts can be applied to practice group registration.

Is there a goalie discount for tournament registration?

-Yes, goalies receive 25% off the final tournament price. Goalies may use the code: Goalie25 to receive the discount.

How will the level of play / division be selected for each event?

-Strivers staff will review each roster and select which level the team should be competing at. Black teams will mostly compete at AA or UA while Silver teams will compete at LA or B. Girls teams will participate at AA or A.

What if I sign up for a tournament and then can no longer attend?

-Once the team has been registered and hotels have been booked, no refunds will be provided.

TEAM MANAGERS

Tournament Team Managers:

A team manager will be needed for every tournament. Parents who volunteer to manage a team over a tournament weekend will receive 50% off their player’s registration fee. One volunteer/discount per tournament.

Duties:

Weekend tasks include but are not limited to, securing a team hotel block, creating roster stickers, handling team communication and planning a team meal. Team Managers from the STJ Hockey Academy 2024-2025 travel season will be given priority.

EQUIPMENT PACKAGE

Are jerseys & socks included in registration?

-No, families must order jerseys through the Strivers PureHockey Store once rosters are announced. The store will be open from March 14th through March 16th.

How do I know what size to order for my player?

-A self serve gear fitting area will be available in the hockey office from March 4th through March 14th. Players should bring their equipment to get sizes for socks and game jerseys. Shells are optional but will be available to try on as well.

How much does the gear package cost?

-$90 plus taxes & shipping ($60 for a jersey, $30 for socks). Shells are optional at $42.

How will I receive my equipment package?

-Orders through PureHockey will ship directly to your door.

Can I return items if they do not fit?

-No, items through PureHockey are custom ordered and cannot be returned. Players should go through the gear fitting to avoid sizing errors.

Can my player use their jersey from last season?

If your player's jersey from last season fits, they can reuse that jersey. We will do our best to limit duplicate jersey numbers but cannot guarantee that every single player in each practice group will have a unique number. We will bring extra jerseys to each event just in case.

Will my player be able to use their favorite jersey number?

We cannot guarantee that every player will get their top jersey number choice. The quick turnaround time from when players register to when jerseys are ordered is too short to accommodate all requests. We will do our best, but jersey numbers may be randomly assigned.
