Learn to Play

No prerequisites required. 

A true introduction to hockey for brand-new players. Participants learn the basics of skating while wearing full hockey gear and begin developing comfort on the ice through age-appropriate drills and games. The focus is on fun, balance, and building confidence in a positive, encouraging environment.

Players should have completed at least one session of Learn to Skate or Snipes & Tykes. Skating remains the primary focus, with continued development of balance, stride, and stopping. Players are introduced to basic puck handling and passing to begin building overall hockey fundamentals.

At this level, players should be able to balance confidently and change direction on their skates. Increased emphasis is placed on stickhandling, passing, and shooting, while continuing to advance skating skills such as edge work, turns, and transitions.

Players are expected to stop, skate backwards, and change direction with confidence. Skaters should be able to stickhandle while moving and consistently pass and receive passes. Small-area games are introduced to apply skills in game-like situations and build hockey awareness.
